Dr. Beth Thacker, Professor of Physics at Texas Tech University, will be presenting on Development and research of an evidence-based, laboratory-based physics course for algebra-based physics students

Abstract:  The development and research of an evidence-based, laboratory-based physics course for algebra-based physics students will be discussed. This will include the course format, goals and theoretical framework and how it has changed over a twenty-year period.  The research and assessment that has been done in the course from conceptual inventories to assessment of thinking skills to assessment of the pedagogical content knowledge of learning assistants (LAs) will be discussed. Comparison will be made to traditionally taught sections of the same course and the present state of the course will be addressed.
