Dr. David Pugalee, Professor and Director of Center for Science, Technology, Engineering,  and Mathematics (STEM) Education at UNC Charlotte will be presenting on Conceptualizing Publication through Discipline-Based Education Research’.

Abstract: STEM research has evolved to include systematic analysis of learning and teaching in a particular discipline employing a range of methods and grounding the work in a particular discipline’s priorities, knowledge, and practices. This research is referred to as discipline-based education research (DBER) which extends more general research focusing on human learning and cognition. The overarching goal of DBER is to promote evidence-based knowledge and practices shown to improve teaching and learning in STEM areas. This presentation will highlight the intersection of STEM content and that of education research. Attention will be given to a description of research frameworks with DBER and the scholarly outlets to report this research.
